Based on the advice of the CAPSA Office Task Team (OES/SPMD/DA/CAPSA), CAPSA organized a knowledge transfer event on 8 May 2018 in Bogor, Indonesia. The purpose was to present comprehensive information on CAPSA’s history, scope, past activities and achievements and operational methodologies/know-hows, for relevant officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, agricultural research centres and other partners in Indonesia, as well as from other CAPSA member countries, and thereby to facilitate the designing of a new organization to inherit CAPSA operations with enhanced ownership of the member countries.
The event was organized as a part of Regional Technical Workshop on Agricultural Risk and Dryland Development for Poverty Alleviation organized jointly by Indonesian Center for Agriculture Socio Economic and Policy Studies (ICASEPS), the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) of the Ministry of Agriculture, and CAPSA. The event attracted some 70 participants mainly from Indonesia, but also including those from Cambodia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The participants appreciated the comprehensive presentation by CAPSA and interactive discussion, and reaffirmed the commitment by their respective Government to join and support the establishment of the new organization.
The event was also associated with a small group discussion on CAPSA transition, facilitated by Dr. Mesah Tarigan, Director of the Centre for International Cooperation/MoA. In this consultation, preliminary draft Concept Note of the new organization was presented by Dr. Sahat Pasaribu, Chair of the 14th session of CAPSA Governing Council, for comments from participants from other member countries. Participants were asked to transmit the information to their capital and solicit feedbacks from a broader range of colleagues.
