On 9 December 2014 a team from CAPSA met with His Excellency, the Union Minister Ohn Myint of the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development of Myanmar to brief him on a project entitled "An Integrated Rural Economic and Social Development Programme for Livelihoods Improvement in the Dry Zone of Myanmar".
CAPSA, together with APCTT and CSAM of ESCAP and the Network Activities Group (NAG), will begin implementing the project in early 2015. The Minister expressed his full support and commitment to the project. He reflected that the project mission fits well with the Rural Development Strategic Framework that his Ministry has been tasked to implement and that focuses on income generation and livelihoods improvement in Myanmar. He also voiced his support to the inclusive and transparent process of stakeholder participation that is envisioned in the project. The project will operate in Magwe and Mandalay regions from 2015-2016, and will focus on capacity development of policy makers to formulate appropriate policy options for improved livelihoods and sustainable food security.
